The 2024 IFSC Climbing World Cup in Prague, held from September 20-22 at Letná Park, delivered a thrilling spectacle for climbing enthusiasts around the world. With over 12,000 spectators attending the event, the competition saw some of the world’s top climbers battle it out on challenging boulder routes.

Men’s Boulder Recap

The men’s final on Saturday, September 21, was nothing short of spectacular. South Korea’s Lee Do-hyun successfully defended his title, clinching the victory with 2 tops and 4 zones. The 21-year-old climber showed his mastery, topping two boulders while reaching the zone in all four problems. His triumph came after a tense competition that saw tough challenges and tricky moves.

France’s veteran climber Manuel Cornu secured second place with 2 tops and 3 zones, closely followed by Great Britain’s Olympic champion Toby Roberts, who took third with 2 tops and 2 zones. Japan’s Sorato Anraku, who had been leading going into the final, couldn’t hold his position and finished fourth. The local hero, Adam Ondra, finished in sixth place, giving his home crowd a moment to cheer when he flashed the final boulder.

Women’s Boulder Recap

The women’s final, held on Sunday, September 22, was equally dramatic. Natalia Grossman of the USA, reigning queen of the bouldering circuit, claimed victory in a nail-biting finish. Grossman, known for her dominance over the past three seasons, secured her win with a last-minute top that thrilled the crowd. The challenging boulders kept some of the women’s top contenders out of the finals, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Special Highlights

Besides the fierce competition, the event also had a heartwarming moment. The organizers of the Prague World Cup announced that they would donate 100,000 CZK to the charity Člověk v tísni, which supports victims of the recent floods in northern Moravia. It was a beautiful gesture that showed the climbing community’s support for those in need.

The Prague World Cup was the penultimate stop of the 2024 season, with the final set to take place in Seoul from October 2-6. The athletes now look ahead to the culmination of this exciting season, but the Czech capital certainly delivered a weekend to remember.
